Premium Pet Portraits in Wellington – Professional Dog, Cat and Animal Photography Studio

If your pet is family, they deserve more than phone photos. I photograph premium pet portraits in my Victoria Street studio in Wellington, using professional lighting and fine art backdrops to create images that celebrate your pet’s personality properly.

Why Invest in Professional Pet Portraits?

For many of my clients, their pet is their main thing. Double income, no kids, or grown-up families where the dog or cat is the centre of the household.

This isn’t about quick snapshots. It’s about creating a premium art piece that reflects what makes your animal unique.

  • The tilt of the head
  • The alert stare
  • The soft, loyal expression
  • The chaos and energy

It’s something you should do at least once in your pet’s lifetime.

How My Pet Portrait Sessions Started

Pet photography gained momentum for me while working with HUHA. Photographing turtles, birds and rescue animals reminded me how powerful a well-lit portrait can be.

I’ve always loved animals. That project pushed me to build pet portraits as a premium studio service.

Dogs came first. They generally settle quickly in new environments and respond well to direction.

Then I started testing cat sessions. There are plenty of cat people in Wellington who want professional photos of their cats. After three test shoots, I can confirm it works. Different energy, different pacing, same premium result.

I’m open to any pet that can fit in the studio and come up the lift. Birds, reptiles, rabbits. If they matter to you, they matter here.

Dog Portraits, Cat Portraits and Beyond

Dogs are still the majority of sessions, but cats are now firmly part of the offering.

Standout sessions so far include:

  • Jan Voss with her Tollers, Halley and Pearl
  • Jude Taylor and her five Border Collies
  • Maple, a six-year-old Cocker Spaniel

Group sessions, single portraits, playful energy or calm fine art looks. It’s all possible in studio.

What Makes My Wellington Pet Photography Studio Different?

This isn’t a one-style-fits-all setup.

Every pet has a different personality. Calm. Energetic. Regal. Chaotic. Soft. Serious.

Before your session, you choose the overall look you want.

Choose the Portrait Style

You select the direction for your pet’s portrait:

  • Painterly Canvas Backdrop

Fine art style portraits on hand-painted canvas backdrops with a timeless gallery feel. This is for people who want something that looks commissioned and ready for the wall.

  • Simple and Clean

Bright minimal studio portraits with a modern, uncluttered look. Clean lines. Focus on expression.

  • Dark and Dramatic

Moody lighting with depth and contrast. Strong shape, strong presence.

  • Photographer’s Choice

If you’re unsure, I’ll choose the style that best suits your pet.

  • Painted Canvas Fine Art

  • Light White or Light Grey

Clean, bright backgrounds with a fresh feel.

  • Neutral Bone or Beige

Soft warm tones for a natural look.

  • Dark Charcoal or Black

Deep moody backgrounds with strong contrast.

  • Photographer’s Choice

I’ll select what works best for your pet’s coat and personality.

Designed Around Personality

The goal is not stiff posing. It’s capturing what makes your pet yours.

Sometimes that’s calm and composed.

Sometimes it’s expressive and playful.

They won’t always look like this.

The puppy stage passes.

The grey hairs come in quietly.

The energy softens.

One day, the photos on your phone won’t feel like enough.

If your pet matters to you, document them properly while you can. Create something you’ll be proud to hang on the wall long after the muddy paws and early morning walks.
